Community Highlights-Service Clubs and Organizations
There are many social organizations in Fernandina Beach that provide opportunities for public service. There’s always something for everyone that can usually accommodate busy schedules.
The GFWC Woman’s Club of Fernandina Beach was founded in 1920 and has been a fixture in the community for many years. The Woman’s Club provides scholarships to deserving girls from local high schools and financial support to both state and national initiatives. They sponsor the Christmas Glow each year with the help of the high school club they sponsor, Little Women, and the GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Fernandina Beach. The Woman’s Club meets on the first Wednesday of every month for a luncheon and program. Little Women is for high school girls 15-18 and is offered by invitation. The Junior Woman’s Club is for ladies 18-40ish who are unable to meet during working hours. You can find them on Facebook here and here.
The Rotary Club of Fernandina Beach is composed of local business leaders and is active in providing leadership, service and scholarship to the area. Fernandina Rotary sponsors the high school Interact club, supports local blood drives and offers incentive trips to deserving 3rd graders. The Rotary Club meets on Wednesday’s at noon, at the Florida House Inn. For more information, visit there website.
One of the more unique social organizations in Fernandina is the Pirate Club. The Pirate Club has been a long time sponsor of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival and serve as local ambassadors. Members of the Pirate Club dress in traditional Pirate gear and even have their own Pirate ship used for local events and parades. The Pirates provide scholarships to area students as well as make our local events just a bit more entertaining. Just beware of the canon!
These are just a handful of local service clubs available in the area. If you’d like, spend some time with all of them to see which one suits you.
